I was born in Nyamandlouvu, 100 miles west of the historic city of Bulawayo in Zimbabwe. Growing up on a farm and I spent most of my time with old African folk. Which gave me an insight into many cultural backgrounds, along with knowledge and passion of the surrounding areas and wilderness.
During my high school years, I attended an old, military-type boarding school; Plumtree, which is based near the borders of Botswana/Zimbabwe. My love for the bush grew by spending time bird watching, hunting, camping and exploring the surrounding areas whilst fishing amongst other sports. After completing my Cambridge studies, I went straight into the safari industry and started working as a trainee safari guide with Touch the Wild in the Gwayi Valley on the outer perimeters of Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe. As well as working under Lionel Reynolds, I also spent time white-water rafting and kayaking on the Zambezi River.
I went on to join Wilderness Safaris and worked as a guide in various National Parks all over Southern Africa including Hwange, Kalahari, Savuti and Moremi. In 1999 I was awarded his full Professional Guides Licence.
I has travelled extensively in Africa and am a very keen photographer, having some of my pictures published in well-known travel and outdoor magazines such as Getaway and Africa Geographic to name a few. My speciality was in tailor made safaris, and guiding small select groups and families through Africa’s most remote places. Whether it be Botswana’s Famous National Parks, Namibia’s Skeleton Coast, or down the Wild Zambezi on walking and canoeing safaris. My passion and excitement for Africa’s bush and its wildlife is contagious and rubs off on all that travel with me in search of an authentic African experience.
In 2007 I made a permanent move to the UK. My love of photography has developed and I have adapted to what now surrounds me. In 2012 I qualified from the Photography Institute with an Honours Diploma. In 2014, I was awarded a Distinction from the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB) for my work and am very proud of the award. I was selected to exhibit in the PAGB exhibition in 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2015. I have also received medals from the Surrey Photographic Association (SPA).
After being awarded the DPAGB, I was invited to become a Judge for the Surrey Photographic Association. I haves proved to be very popular with clubs throughout Surrey and am often invited back to judge or to give one of my unique and informative talks on Africa.
As you browse through the different albums, I’m sure you will see that whatever I am photographing, my passion and style always shines through.
